Joining from Fujifilm, Harris will be responsible for visiting UK customers and will work closely with office-based business development manager Louise Bailey to support Edale’s growing presence in the UK. According to Edale, the appointment aligns with its commitment to having greater reach and more engagement with customers. Edale welcomes UK sales manager to team The Printing Charity names new president Michael Grade CBE, Lord Grade of Yarmouth has been named as the President of the Printing Charity for 2023. Currently Chair of OFCOM, Grade started his career as a print journalist and says he is a “great believer in the power of print as a communication channel”. Grade says: “I’m pleased to be involved with the Printing Charity and am looking forward to supporting their crucial work providing practical, emotional, and financial support to everyone in the print, packaging, paper, publishing, and graphic arts sectors.” Durst UK & Ireland has appointed Tracy Dineen as its business development manager in southern England. Bringing over 20 years of experience in print and communication, Dineen will work closely with the local sales, service, supply, and logistics teams as well as at group level. Dineen will also spend time accompanying customers and prospects to the group head office in Brixen, South Tyrol, Italy and at Durst Innovation Center East, in Lienz, East Tyrol, Austria. Dineen says the company’s sense of identity and brand values are akin with her own. Described as a “true punk rocker” due to having been a musician for most of his life, Warwick first started his career at Reeds in 1978 where he was hired by his father Malcom Warwick the company’s co-owner and production director. A true family affair, Warwick’s grandfather Syd Thornton was also an established figure at Reeds as director and works manager when Warwick joined the company. Thought to have “printer’s ink in his blood”, Warwick recalls how his parents were keen for him to join the family business and would buy him John Bull printing set boxes for Christmas. Warwick began his career as a compositor with the role evolving with the business, moving up to run his own presses and then progressing to his current role as a platemaker for the state-ofthe-art litho and digital presses that run at Reeds in Penrith. Reflecting on how the print industry has changed over the past 45 years, Warwick says: “Reeds has changed and grown since I was the designated bait boy, going out to collect bait in the morning for the other workers. Machines and presses have kept up with the latest technologies, and Reeds has expanded to include new businesses such as signs, web, and digital, adapting to keep up with the changing times.” ‘Punk Rocker’ celebrates 45 years in print at H&H Reeds David Warwick is celebrating 45 years at H&H Reeds Print & Design In its 111-year history, the British Coatings Federation hasn’t had a female president, until now. The Federation appointed Sharon Harte of Dacrylate Paints as its new president at its 2023 Annual Conference. Succeeding Guy Williams who has been president for the past two years, Harte is the first female president of the BCF, or its predecessor organisations, in its 111-year history. Reflecting back over the last ten years for the BCF, Williams says: “Looking back, I take immense pride in the achievements of BCF in recent years. Starting with the new HQ in Coventry, we’ve seen the Federation strengthen significantly and has twice been named Trade Association of the Year.” Harte thanked Williams for his “fantastic leadership” throughout his presidency which she describes as one of the most turbulent periods in the industry’s history. BCF elects first female president in 111 years Trade organisation Picon has announced the appointment of Mark Lawn, head of print-ondemand for Fujifilm Europe, and Steve Turner managing director of Komori UK as members of its Council. Both Lawn and Turner have regularly attended Picon events and appreciate the value of the trade organisation, particularly through challenges such as Brexit, Covid-19, and other industry changes. Highlighting the diverse range of offerings from members of Picon, Turner says: “Picon strives to offer value to all its members, be it creating opportunities to attend seminars that are interesting, relevant, and educational; organising high quality networking events with peers; or providing information and help on employment and training programmes.
