22 email: editor@printmonthly.co.uk July / August 2025 - Issue 355 Drawing younger people to print has been an ongoing issue for companies in the industry for some time now, with some raising concerns about how they are going to fill a growing skills gap. Recognising this, several groups have stepped up to raise awareness of the opportunities for young people in print and how they can enjoy a successful and ranging career within the print industry. Among those is the aptly named Young People in Print (YIPP), which will exhibit at The Print Show for the first time this year. YPIP was set up as an initiative to help the industry project itself as a career choice for young people. Working with organisations inside and outside the industry, the initiative reaches into schools, colleges, and universities to better understand how it can work with them to offer support and information. On top of this, YPIP collaborates with The Careers and Enterprise Company nationally to host and support events. “This helps us get in front of this age group, who are beginning to make the decisions that can affect their options for employment, and speak with parents at the events too, as they are also unaware of the career pathways that are open through the print industry, including Finance and IT,” explains Elizabeth Bowerman from Thistle and Rose Print Consultancy, one of the professionals backing the initiative. She adds: “It’s not all ink on paper.” During the show, YPIP will be offering guided tours to young people coming in from local education establishments at all levels to showcase the diversity that sits under the industry’s expansive umbrella. The group will also provide information for them to take home and consider in their own time. “The show has always been a must attend event, even more so with the rapid rate of advances which have been made in recent years,” Bowerman says, adding: “From a YPIP perspective, it allows us to showcase what's coming to the young people.” Younger people keen to learn about the YPIP, how it can support them with their career choices, and gain further knowledge about working in print can meet with the group on Stand P65. Engineered specifically for long-lasting, all-weather performance, the new range will offer both illuminated and non-illuminated profiles to sign and print companies in the UK. The non-illuminated frame has a 27mm depth and, according to EFKA, offers a streamlined solution for cost-effective exterior branding. Meanwhile, the illuminated version features a depth of 60mm and delivers “standout” visibility day or night, which the manufacturer says makes it ideal for high-impact outdoor campaigns. Key for UK customers will be the all-weather qualities of both profiles. The outdoor fabric frames feature a robust integrated barb system to keep tensioned fabric securely in place, even in strong gusts and heavy rain. “With this launch, EFKA expands its portfolio to include high performance exterior display solutions for signage, retail, events, and commercial environments,” EFKA says, adding: “We are pleased to be showcasing the full outdoor range on Stand S315 at The Sign Show this September.” Co-hosted with The Print Show in Hall 3 of the NEC, The Sign Show is a brand-new event that organisers say has been designed to address the core needs and requirements of the UK signage market. Featuring a wide-ranging exhibitor list with manufacturers and suppliers from all corners of the sector, as well as several special features that will be running throughout the show to offer further insight into sign-making crafts and techniques, organisers say this will the perfect complement to established sister event, The Print Show.
