action gave me a real sense of just how varied and in-demand print is. From massive signage jobs to detailed, bespoke pieces, everything was produced in-house, quickly and efficiently. It was the first time that I saw how print comes in so many forms and how essential it is to everyday business. Marketing in the Middle of the Action As Hybrid’s digital content and marketing executive, my day-to-day role revolves around showing customers that Mimaki printers aren’t just machines, they’re gateways to new business opportunities. Whether I’m creating content for social media, writing for the website, or developing email campaigns, the goal is always the same – to make the technology feel accessible, exciting, and full of potential. As Mimaki innovates constantly, there’s never a shortage of marketing opportunities. With Hybrid being the official distributor for Mimaki in the UK and Ireland, we play a vital role in giving the brand a voice. That means it’s important I understand not only the technology, but how it fits into different sectors, from sign and graphics to textiles, industrial print, and beyond. Luckily, I’m surrounded by a team who live and breathe this stuff. Being part of a close-knit company means I work alongside the sales team, application specialists, and product managers. Whether it's bouncing around campaign ideas or learning which features customers are most excited about, their insight feeds directly into the content I create and helps make sure it targets the right audience. One of the most rewarding parts of my role is seeing all our hard work come to life at exhibitions and events. It’s where everything we’ve been planning, from campaigns to content, meets a real audience. Thousands of people from across the print industry, whether seasoned professionals or eager newcomers, come through the doors to visit stands like ours to see the latest Mimaki technology in action. It’s a real chance to show how we position and promote the brand, and the impact that marketing has in a live, face-to-face setting. Seeing Possibility in Every Print Applications are absolutely crucial to my role, they’re what really brings the potential of Mimaki kit to life. It’s one thing to write about features and specifications, but it’s a completely different experience seeing a machine in action. Every week, I spend time in Hybrid’s showroom getting hands-on training with the Mimaki kit we have in-house. One week it might be UV printing personalised coasters, the next it’s pressing DTF transfers onto hoodies. No two weeks are the same, and every time I see something new, it sparks fresh content ideas. It helps me show our audience exactly what these machines can do, not just as printers, but as tools to unlock serious business potential. If I had to pick a favourite, I’d say the Mimaki UJF MkII e series stands out to me. It’s a brilliant example of how one printer can open up a whole world of opportunities. From personalised giftware and branded merchandise to signage and industrial components, it handles it all. The fact that it runs on versatile, cost-effective ink and uses energy-saving UV-LED technology also makes it a smart, sustainable investment for businesses. For me, it perfectly sums up what Mimaki is all about: innovation, creativity, and commercial opportunity. To maximise productivity this powerful device ensures that peak print speeds are always maintained, even when using white ink, and a laser gap-sensor prevents downtime, by ensuring the printhead does not touch the media during production. Confidence, Creativity, and What Comes Next My first year at Hybrid has been a huge learning curve, but easily the most rewarding one I’ve had. I came into the industry not knowing much about print at all and now I’m planning and delivering campaigns tailored to specific sectors and audiences. Being part of a company that truly knows its stuff has pushed me in the best way. It’s encouraged me to keep learning, keep asking questions, and keep challenging myself creatively. So, what’s next? While I can’t predict exactly what the future holds, I know there’s still so much more to learn. More campaigns, more customer stories, more events, and hopefully more confidence in my knowledge as time goes on. Getting involved with The Printing Charity has also opened my eyes to how supportive this industry is towards young people. Initiatives like Rising Star show that there’s real investment in the next generation, and I’m hoping to apply next year. It’s a fantastic opportunity for people aged 18 to 30 working in any role within print to apply for the chance to win funding to support their personal development. My advice to anyone just starting out in the print world? Ask questions. Lots of them. This industry is full of people who are passionate about what they do, and I’ve found they’re always happy to help you understand more. If I can go from having no background in print and signage to where I am now, in just one year, then so can you.
